Parent and child fostering

Parent and child fostering is when a young person, who may be in the later stages of pregnancy or has a new born baby, comes to live with a foster family.

Parent and child foster caring is a special fostering arrangement designed to give a vulnerable new parent and their baby the best start. A pregnant teenager may come to live with you before they give birth, or very soon afterwards.

Or it may be that new parent of any age has had a poor experience of parenting when they were growing up, and might need extra help to learn essential parenting skills.

Parent & child foster carers act as a role model to help the new parent learn essential parenting skills so they can reconise, understand and respond to their baby's needs. You're there to give advice and guidance, and provide them with a caring family environment with a daily routine and structure.

This kind of fostering helps a new family to thrive and learn the skills they need to be able to move into their own home.

My parent and child placement changed my life. I got my family when I turned 18, not just my son but a whole support network. It's quite amazing really."
